Join us on August 26th, 2022 for the 8th Annual San Diego Film Awards at the beautiful Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park. Dress to impress and come out to celebrate and honor San Diego’s finest cast, crew, and talent. For the first time ever a televised version of the show will premiere on KPBS that same night!
The 2022 San Diego Film Awards will recognize excellence in over 20 categories for local narrative and documentary films made by independent and professional filmmakers.
THIS YEAR’S SHOW
Hosted by Laura Bohlin and Derrick Acosta, this year’s awards show will include segments and a special ‘Some Like It Hot” parody filmed at the world-famous Hotel Del Coronado. It will focus on San Diego’s film history with fascinating facts and trivia about San Diego’s production history. We’ll be highlighting the movies, from indy darlings to blockbuster hits, that were made right here in America’s Finest City.
Derrick Acosta has been a Youtube creator and star since he was in high school. He has created video content for MTV, Spike TV, The Hub Network, Hulu, Nintendo, Hasbro Toys, Sony Playstation, Microsoft XBOX, Disney, and many more.
Derrick currently resides in San Diego, CA. producing weekly entertainment for the YouTube channel Mega64 with a video catalog garnering over 150 million views and 600K subscribers.
Laura Bohlin lives in Los Angeles and is grateful that she gets to act in commercials and films, host/MC events, do voiceover gigs, and occasionally perform some theatre, sketch comedy, and improv! She studied acting with Billy Cowart of WCI Studios and improv with Jacquie Lowell as well as Upright Citizens Brigade
KPBS BROADCAST: For the first time ever, we will both have a televised broadcast of the San Diego Film Awards along with a live award ceremony where we will hand out the trophies and celebrate as a community.
ABOUT THE TEAM: This year’s show is directed by Derrick Acosta and produced by Jodi Cilley and Tony Amat. The ‘Some Like it Hot’ parody was directed by Jonathan Hammond and produced by Shannon Taylor.
The three-time Emmy-nominated San Diego Film Awards is produced by Film Consortium San Diego and sponsored by KPBS, Heartland Films, Panasonic Lumix, and Nelson Photo Supplies.
SCHEDULE
6 PM: Reception and Red Carpet
San Diego Film Awards VIPs, nominees, presenters, and attendees will walk the red carpet and get their photos taken with friends, family, and fans. This is open to anyone attending the San Diego Film Awards and closes promptly at 6:45.
7 PM: 2022 San Diego Film Awards show
Presented by KPBS, the 8th Annual San Diego Film Awards will be taking place at the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park. Enjoy celebrity presenters, dignitaries, and previous winners of the San Diego Film Awards. The awards show will air on the same date on KPBS.
9 PM: Post Reception
Following the San Diego Film Awards, The VIP Reception will be held at the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park. This will be your chance to celebrate with the San Diego Film Awards winners and mix and mingle with the presenters, hosts, and sponsors as well as the filmmakers themselves.

HISTORY
The San Diego Film Awards is the only local awards show that recognizes cast, crew, and filmmakers for their achievements. Founded in 2014, the San Diego Film Awards recognizes and rewards excellence for the cast, crew, and talent for documentary shorts, narrative shorts, narrative features, and documentary features. The Film Awards are presented annually by the Film Consortium San Diego to recognize the excellence of students, independent and professional filmmakers, talent, and crew in the San Diego film industry. The televised broadcast has been Nominated for three Emmys and our composer, Steve Garbade, for Musical Composition.
